지난 주말 대한노인회 미주총연합회가 마련한 ‘2026 시니어 음악회 및 효자·효부상 시상식’이 성황리에 열렸다. 한미무용연합 진발레스쿨은 지난해에 이어 올해도 초대받아 어린이 발레단의 ‘자유로 하나되어’와 실버 발레단의 ‘카르멘’을 무대에 올렸다.

오늘의 한인사회는 하루아침에 만들어진 것이 아니다. 낯선 환경에서 일하고 자녀를 키우며 삶의 터전을 닦아온 어르신 세대가 있었기에 지금의 우리가 있다. 이 단체는 그분들의 삶을 존중하고 소중한 세월을 기억하며, 미주 각지의 시니어들을 하나로 잇는 든든한 구심점이 되어왔다.

또한 시니어들의 목소리를 모아 권익과 복지를 살피고, 서로 교류하며 외로움을 덜 수 있는 만남의 장을 마련해 왔다. 그분들이 평생 쌓아온 경험과 지혜를 다음 세대와 나누고, 활기찬 노년을 살아갈 수 있도록 돕는 것 역시 중요한 역할이다. 세대를 잇는 일은 한인사회의 뿌리를 지키는 일이기도 하다.

이번 행사는 단순한 음악회를 넘어 한인사회를 일구어 온 1세대에게 감사의 마음을 전하고 효의 의미를 되새기는 자리였다. 그 뜻에 공감한 여러 단체와 사람들이 기쁜 마음으로 함께했으며, 주최 측은 오랜 시간 공연과 시상식, 상품과 선물을 세심하게 준비해 풍성하고 따뜻한 축제를 완성했다.

무대 위에 춤의 선이 펼쳐지자 객석의 시선과 마음이 자연스럽게 하나로 모였다. 춤은 말보다 먼저 마음에 닿는 예술의 언어다. 섬세한 손끝과 리듬을 품은 발걸음은 기쁨과 감사, 사랑을 전하며 서로 다른 세대를 하나의 감동으로 이어주었다.

어린 무용수들은 성조기와 태극기를 들고 힘차게 춤추며 객석에 기쁨을 전했고, 실버 발레단은 세월이 빚어낸 품격과 열정으로 깊은 감동을 남겼다. 어린이와 시니어가 한 무대에 오른 모습은 춤이 나이를 넘어 모든 세대를 하나로 아우르는 예술임을 보여주었다.

행사가 끝나자 참석자들은 저마다 선물 하나씩을 들고 환한 미소로 집으로 향했다. 우리 공연팀도 따뜻한 박수와 환대에 선물까지 받아 돌아오는 발걸음이 한결 가벼웠다. 이 뜻깊은 자리를 정성껏 준비하고 우리를 초대해 주신 모든 관계자께 깊이 감사드린다.

“A Beautiful Celebration Connecting Generations”
Jean Ballet School’s Invited Dance Performance at the Senior Music Concert

The years a person has traveled through are, in themselves, a book of history. The lives of first-generation Korean immigrants who put down roots in a foreign land, protected their families, and helped build today’s Korean American community hold stories of sacrifice, tears, perseverance, and love.

Last weekend, the Federation of Daehan Seniors Associations in U.S.A. presented its “2026 Senior Music Concert and Filial Piety Awards Ceremony.” Invited for the second consecutive year, KOA Jean Ballet School performed two works: United in Freedom by the children’s ballet group and Carmen by the Silver Ballet group.

Today’s Korean American community was not created overnight. We are here because an older generation worked in unfamiliar surroundings, raised families, and built a foundation for those who followed. The organization has become a strong center that honors their lives, preserves their stories, and connects seniors throughout the United States.

It also brings together the voices of seniors, supports their rights and well-being, and provides meaningful opportunities for friendship and fellowship. Sharing their lifelong experience and wisdom with younger generations—and encouraging an active and fulfilling later life—is another important part of its mission. Connecting generations is also a way of preserving the roots of the Korean American community.

This event was more than a music concert. It was an opportunity to thank the first generation who helped establish our community and to reflect upon the enduring value of filial devotion. Many organizations and community members embraced its purpose and participated wholeheartedly. After months of thoughtful preparation, the organizers created a warm and abundant celebration filled with performances, awards, prizes, and gifts.

As the graceful lines of dance unfolded across the stage, the eyes and hearts of the audience naturally came together. Dance is an artistic language that reaches the heart before words do. Delicate gestures and rhythmic steps conveyed joy, gratitude, and love, bringing different generations together in a shared moment of emotion.

The young dancers filled the stage with energy as they carried the American and Korean flags, while the Silver Ballet dancers moved the audience with dignity, passion, and the beauty shaped by time. Seeing children and seniors share one stage revealed how dance can transcend age and embrace every generation.

At the end of the celebration, guests left with bright smiles and a gift in hand. Our performers also returned home with lighter steps, carrying not only gifts but also the warmth of the audience’s applause and hospitality. We sincerely thank everyone who carefully prepared this meaningful occasion and invited us to take part.

Community service begins when the heart is moved. When we gladly share our time and talents, that joy returns through even greater smiles and gratitude. On this stage, dance crossed the boundaries of age and brought children and seniors together. When appreciation for the path walked by earlier generations is passed on to those who follow, our Korean American community can grow warmer, stronger, and more beautiful.
